12 Days of Christmas- Day 9 Event

Meet Carmen! She is made from two of my favorite fabrics from one of my all time favorite fabric collections, Meadowsweet. The idea for this giveaway came when we took the kids to see Santa last week and Abby wanted to sing 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' with "the extras". lol All five of us sang it in the car and Rob and I impressed the kids with some "extras" that they didn't know!

For a chance to win this little gal... just leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite holiday song or carol is! Religious (all!), non-religious, serious, silly... whatever song makes you want to listen or sing along! You have 24 hours to comment and we'll pick the winner by a random draw!

  3. We have a new favorite. The Macabeats "Candlelight" video which was such a hit this year on the web is a HUGE hit in my house. The kids and I can watch the video and listen to it on repeat forever (and thus far, we have).

Whenever the actual song (It's a parody of "Dynamite") comes on the radio, we're disappointed when we realize it's not the Chanukah song.

I love that the song is so catchy and meaningful plus I LOVE having a popular holiday song that my kids can identify with. We always hear Christmas songs this time of year and it's not our holiday, so they feel left out. This song, though, everyone is singing, even their non-Jewish friends.

My Catholic friend's 5-year-old randomly started singing the song in the car. I love that. :-)

Other than that, one of my favorite holiday songs was "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas." It was originally used as a fundraiser for our zoo here in OK and that's cool. Plus it's catchy. Best of all, for me, though, when my daughters were 3, they danced to that song in ballet class. They, however, replaced the word, "Christmas," with "Chanukah," and they did so very loudly which always cracked the audience up. :-) They're 8 and 1/2 now and they STILL sing their version of that song to the hippo at the zoo every time we pass.

My mom used to sing a song about Randolph the bowlegged cowboy. To the tune of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Do you know that one?

My fave carol is definately O Holy Night. My Dad used to sing it so beautifully, and I it's something I miss very much since he passed away.

  32. I'm from Oklahoma, but live in Virginia now. My favorite Christmas carol of all times is really not a carol at all...it's an advertisement for a local jewelry store in Oklahoma City...B.C. Clark's. You knew it was really Christmas time when you heard the B.C. Clark's jingle...

Jewelry is the gift to give
'Cause it's the gift that'll live & live.
So give the gift you know can't fail
    At B.C. Clark's Anniversary sale.
    Most sales are after Christmas,
    But Clark's is just before.
Most everything is marked way down,
    Savings you can't ignore
    At Oklahoma's oldest jewelers,
    Since 1892.
So, give the gift you know can't fail,
    At B.C. Clark's anniversary sale!!

I know it sounds crazy, but it's legendary in the area!!!

  33. My favorite is Jingle Bells! And this year my daughter can sing it! She says jingie bows jingie bows! It is sooo cute!

  34. One of my favorite memories growing up was listening to John Denver and the Muppets Christmas album. It was the highlight of decorating the Christmas tree! After my dad remarried we introduced our new step sister and step brother to the Christmas tradition. Now everyone sings Miss Piggy's version of the Hay Penny song! : )

  35. I love *Mary did you know?* Love hearing this song, and belting it out when no one is around!

    Hugs,
    Gina

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy"!! I love that song! It and "The Nutcracker" put me in such a holiday spirit every year! They both bring back such fun memories of when I use to perform in the annual "Nutcracker" Ballet at the Hershey Theatre in Hershey, PA. Aka Chocolate town!! Yes I lived and grew up there and yes it smells like Chocolate!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jingle Bells, because my oldest daughter at age 2 1/2 adopted that song as "her song" and would sing everything to the tune of Jingle Bells. We were even at a friends house and DD was tapping her elbow on the table, when my friend was like "Is she tapping her elbow to the beat of Jingle Bells???". Yes, yes she was. And that was in May, well past the holiday season. And a year later, most songs are still sung to that tune. I know I'll always think of her when I hear it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's soo hard to narrow it down to just one but I'm gonna go with "Mary did you know?" and "Baby it's cold outside"

    ReplyDelete
  39. Not a holiday song, but a catchy song my husband and I both love is "Aint no sunshine" by Bill Withers. You didn't ask for this, but it means a lot to us because it makes us think of our first year of marriage when we would try to sing the chorus without taking a breathe in oxygen-deprived Denver, CO.
