ReplyDeleteMy most memorable childhood gifts were my American Girl Doll (Samantha and I still have her) and tickets to the Garth Brooks concert (my dad took me)!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was a doll that peed and drank from a bottle. We visited my older sister in Hungary that year, and I was allowed to take my baby with me. I have a great picture of me sleeping on the plane with my doll. :)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite doll, Patty! She was a large rag doll that I slept with every night until she turned into rags. I put her remains in a bag. I found them this year when my basement flooded and we were cleaning it out. My project for 2011 is to bring Patty back to life!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 10, I got a GIANT teddy bear that I always used to admire when we went to a certain department store. :)

ReplyDeletemere@jklobo.com
going to Disneyland with my family.
ReplyDeleteI remember getting a Baby Alive. She was so great cause you got to feed and change her nappy (not as fun with a real baby! lol). I had her for a day before my little sister sat down and ate all baby alive's food :( hehe
ReplyDeleteMy favorite present was a big, brown, floppy teddy bear. He was a gift from my parents. My daughter has him now and he is still the best bear in the house....he looks like he's been loved but that makes him even better!
ReplyDeleteThe My Child doll i got one year would have to be one of the best. I took her everywhere with me <3
ReplyDeleteI got a little mermaid handheld video game, it was the coolest thing in the world :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite gifts were my Breyer Horses.
ReplyDeleteA doll of michelle from full house! she had a pullstring that made her say "don't call me squirt". i was obsessed with that show and i still remember just being so excited that i didnt even want to open my other presents lol
ReplyDeletemy cabbage patch dolls, especially the one that you push it's tummy and it blows a birthday streamer. I have now passed them on to my daughter, she thinks they are cool because you can't buy ones like them in the store anymore:)
ReplyDeleteA stuffed mouse that I named Miss Bianca (from The Rescuers). One of my only remaining childhood photos is of me at the Christmas I got her in my stocking. :)
ReplyDeleteMy was a giant 'Jody' brand doll. I was so excited because it had blonde hair and the same name as me!!! (Spelt the same too) I took that doll everywhere. When I had my hair cut into a bob, I cut the dolls hair the same. (hehe, I am actually a hairdresser today) It's funny how exciting is to receive a doll with the same name. I plan on changing the Mae dolls I make to Anika and Addison so my girls get the same feeling.. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say the basketball hoop and backboard my parents got for me and my sister. I got the backboard and my sister got the hoop, net, and bolts and nuts. When she opened the bolts and must we all laughed and she said, 'Oh boy! Buts and nolts!'....lol...its still up in my parents barn...lol...my dad never found the 'perfect spot' for it...whatever he meant by that...lol...
ReplyDeleteMy uncle made me a very detailed doll house.
ReplyDeleteMy pretty in pink barbie with matching barbie bed. Loved them.
ReplyDeleteProbably my Panda bear, still have him. :) I picked him up the other day and gave him a squeeze-- he feels exactly the same. It was like jumping back in time and remembering all those dentist appointments, road trips and late nights playing with him. I hope my kids have something special to remember like that.
ReplyDeleteMy orange and yellow barbie dream house. When my oldest (7) was still a baby I found the house in the same colors and had to pick it up...she loves it and I home my youngest will enjoy it also!
ReplyDeleteI remember 2 gifts for very different reasons!!
ReplyDelete1) A pair of pale blue baby doll pyjamas ... they were the weirdest cut, with bias binding around the sleeves and leg holes (not elastic), which meant I couldn't get them on, and they were never worn. I wonder what kind of kids they used as a model for those!!??!!
2) Fashion plates! I was 12, and I used them for title pages in all my school exercise books, and kept the entire kit in perfect order. My girls like playing with them now :D
I was a sophomore in high school and my grandma made me a doll. She was huge, around half my height, and I loved her so much. I named her Impy (no idea why). I still have her and now my girls love her.
ReplyDeleteRollerblades... I loved whizzing about :)
ReplyDeleteMy email:kellyfegan@hotmail.co.uk
I got my sweet dog Lady for Christmas right after I turned 6. Best gift ever. I had her for about 11 years. :)
ReplyDeleteA Strawberry Shortcake doll. I wonder whatever happened to that thing? LOL
ReplyDeleteI particularly remember getting a "Sweet Secret", I think they were called. They looked like a gemmed lockette, but they had an animal (mine was a kitten) folded up inside, so when you unfolded the head, arms and legs, the lockette became the body. I got it from Santa when he came to my Primary School the Christmas before I started grade prep (first year). It was all a bit magical. :-) I still have it and now my 4 little girls love playing with it.
ReplyDeleteI remember my cabbage patch dolls.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite gift was a pink bike! I was around 5 and I hadn't learn to ride a bike yet!
ReplyDeleteI remember getting Lite Brite! I loved that toy and played with it forever! I was so happy to see it again on the toy shelves. I think my 5 year old daughter would love it too!
ReplyDeleteThe year that I got a Puppy Surprise stuffed animal...and a Kitty Surprise, and a Teddy Surprise. LOL, I think I got a Bunny Surprise then too. They were SO awesome. ;)
ReplyDeletestraszaatgmaildotcom
My first kitten. I had gotten to pick her from the litter earlier, but she wasn't ready to come "home" until Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI got a loom one year for Christmas. I used it until it broke like 2 years later...too bad because I loved that thing!
ReplyDeleteMy first horse! My mom and dad got her for me for my 4th birthday and her name was Lotta Charisma
ReplyDeleteOh there are so many!! I think it was one special Christmas my Nanny (aka Grandma) got me a "Charity" bear....I thought it was so cool it had the same name as me. And she hand embroidered my name on the scarf. =) She has gone on to heaven now but I am thankful I still have it neatly tucked away. =)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the fabric for the MerMae.....how perfect is that?!? Please pick me!! =) Haha.
It is hard to pick a favorite, but one that stands out as so special and amazing - a dear family friend made me hand-made Barbie ball gowns I don't know if I still have it, but my favorite was a peacy/orange gown with a floral gauze overlay - wish I had one now in my size! Thanks for encouraging us to think about our Christmas memories!! I love this mermae doll - she is my favorite mermaid I have seen!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a cabbage patch doll and she went everywhere with me! I consequently love dollies!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely my Baby Alive doll.
ReplyDeletethetottery(at)gmail(dot)com
I remember my Cabbage Patch doll the most - especially my aunt's story about how she had to fight two other ladies for it! The other memorable gift was this fancy pair of leather shoes that I picked out before Christmast. It was the first time my mom did that and it made me feel so grown up :)
ReplyDeleteThat would definitely be my schnauzer puppy "Kissy" when I was around 10 or 11. My parents planned it out pretty well...we went to look at puppies and give our input before Christmas, but my parents told us we "couldn't afford it after all" and we went home sad. On Christmas Eve we came home from visiting relatives and heard a scratching, whimpering noise...and guess what surprise we found under the tree!? I believed in Santa again that year, there was no way my parents put that puppy there! ;)
ReplyDeleteA doll with red curly hear which I could put in a bath and potty train, I was a busy 'mommy'.
ReplyDeleteI got a plastic bodied cabbage patch kid that really tanned in the sun - i had to wait quite a few months to see if it actually worked though! :)
ReplyDeleteI got Paradise Estate which was the My Little Ponies house.
ReplyDeleteJasmine
When I was very young I remember getting one of those very fancy holiday sort of Barbies, I can still remember how surprised and happy I was.
ReplyDeleteMy very first tea set!age 5 i Had so much fun playing tea parties and making cakes for my dollies and teddies!
ReplyDeleteShe's adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteMy great grandmothers doll! It had no hair and was the first walking doll. She is still treasured.

The best gift that I can remember from my child hood is my Cabbage Patch Kids dolls! I got my first one when I was 8 and my second one when I was 9! I loved them so much!! To me they were the best ever!!
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas that I got my Strawberry Shortcake doll stands out the most. I was 8 years old. :)
ReplyDeleteHmm. I don't know if I remember. Oh, I know. I wanted this cool set to make your own perfume. It had all these scents that you would mix. Pretty cool. I may have been a bit older when I got this.
ReplyDeleteThis one is a little different - one year my brother gave me his jacket as a gift. My brother is much older than me and I always looked up to him. He had this leather jacket that he had found and had sewn all kinds of things all over it. It was very unique and it was his favorite, so it meant so much to me to get that jacket as a gift. Funny, b/c he didn't even wrap it - he just handed it over and said "Merry Christmas, sis!" LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was about 8 I wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid. My father was out of work and my parents couldn't afford one, so my mom (being an amazing seamstress) made me a doll complete with clothing, shoes, pajamas, slippers, tote bag, coats, hats, a muff, and even a teddy bear. She was so excited for me to open it, but I was (at the time) disappointed that she wasn't a Cabbage Patch Kid. Over the years though my feelings have changed, and that doll is now my most treasured possession. She is currently tucked away waiting for my daughter to be old enough to play with!
ReplyDeleteCabbage patch dolls were definitely a hot ticket item!! I remember my mom telling me women were fighting in the aisles to get one. She managed to get one for me that year!! She had red braided pig tails! But I have to say my all time favorite gift will be this year!!! After having two adorable little boys (Peyton 4 Caleb 14 months) we are being blessed with a little girl!! I am due right after Xmas! We are so very excited!!! And I am going so crazy over all this girly stuff!!
ReplyDeleteJewelry box that had a little ballerina that would play music and the ballerina would twirl around when you opened it up.
ReplyDeleteMy first snowboard when I was 10.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was about 10 and deemed to old to play with dolls by most people, one of my parents friends gave me a life-size baby doll. I loved her!
ReplyDeleteI was a bit of tomboy (not sure if it was because I had two older brothers or what) and the best Christmas I had was when my parents and a family friend both got me the same slot car track. The cars' headlights even lit up! Of course we hooked them both up together so it took up half the basement lol.
ReplyDeletethe baby cradle my grandfather made me as a child. I got to open it on Christmas eve and didn't care about the other gifts that year.
ReplyDeleteI remember wanting a leather bomber jacket so bad one year. We opened all of our gifts and went on all our family stops. was pretty sure me and my sister were not getting the jackets. BUT my mom pulled out 2 more gifts after all the excitement was over....our new jackets!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite gift was a handmade doll from my grandma ;) She sits on the dresser in my kids room. I think most of the best gifts that I ever got were handmade. I also LOVE that we found almost the exact same doll at a craft show this year so now my little girl can have her own to join all her other handmade dolls!
ReplyDeleteI think mine was probably the "My Little Pony" stable I got when I was about 9...I guess I'm dating myself as a child of the 80's!
ReplyDeleteWhat sticks out the most is when I recieved an
ReplyDeleteAsian Cabbage Patch doll. She was so pretty. She had red silk clothing and black flip flop style shoes. I remember wanting her for all year and close to Christmas she was gone from the store. I cried and cried thinking someone else bought her. It was such a great Christmas waking up and unwrapping her. Thanks for helping me remember that memory.
A skate board!
ReplyDeleteThe present that always comes to mind is the discman my dad got each of us girls one year. I don't have it anymore, he bought us all MP3 players a few years back. I'm always tuned in while sewing.
ReplyDeleteI still have my first baby doll named Suzy. After several bad haircuts and dips in the toilet through my younger years , she is still sweet and comforting. My daughter says she looks weird but I still love her!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas present had to be last year when we bought my daughter a fish tank (3 1/2yr old). She was so excited and proud to fill it, decorate it and go and choose 2 fish).
ReplyDeleteSince that day she daily checks on the tank and the fish. Its a Christmas gift that kept giving all year through and beyond.
My favorite Christmas present was when I was 5 years old and the year that the "Skipper" doll first came out. I don't know how, but Santa was able to bring me one with long dark hair. I still have the doll and other than some aging, she is still beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite presents as a child were two: Princess Leia doll in 2nd grade, and Barbie dream house in 5th grade.
ReplyDeleteAs an adult, I love the good books my husband surprises me with, and I adore watching my 2 year old open and get excited by her presents - whatever they are. Her favorite to date would probably be a set of colorful giant foam shapes that she can roll on, stand on, stack, or crawl over. As she was born near Christmas, she was probably my best gift ever!
My favorite gift at Christmas was my cabbage patch doll. I remember my mom and aunt trying so hard to get ahold of one in '84, I still have her and she smells so good, like baby powder :)
ReplyDeleteThe year of the cabbage patch craze (mom's punching each other in the store, etc) my mom wasn't going to deal with all that madness so she found a woman at a craft fair who made homemade cabbage patch dolls. She got my sister and I one each. We also were allowed to pick out some homemade clothes for them. I chose the lush fur coat. :) Unknown to me, my sister saved them and gifted them to my daughter on her 1st birthday.
ReplyDeleteStrawberry Shortcake. I think that's why I'm such a sucker for her these days.
ReplyDeletemy most memorable gift was from when I was 4yo. I got a toy puppy that would follow a track on a special mat. I loved it. it was also the year I actually saw Santa (my parents friend)at my house. A truly magical Christmas.
ReplyDeleteAs a child the only thing I really remember being excited about was the year my brother and I got bikes. We lived in the woods so there was nowhere to ride besides the basement :)
ReplyDeleteMy most memorable gift was my stuffed monkey doll that looks similar to Curious George. I received him when I was 3 yrs old. I actually still have him to this day, minus one eye and quite a bit of fur. <3
ReplyDelete(lmuzinic2000 at yahoo.com)
I think my favorite gift was my husband!!! We started dating around Christmas, got married around Christmas (on his birthday!) and celebrated our first Christmas as a married couple the day after returning from our honeymoon. He is my best gift ever (still is - just celebrated our 18th anniversary!!).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was a My Child doll. I still have her and Lili plays with her now.
ReplyDeleteIt has got to be my Hot Looks Doll! I loved that girl!
ReplyDeleteMy mom made me a Tiny Tots doll I named after her. She had strawberry hair and blue eyes like me and I was just wondering yesterday what happened to her. I would love to pass her down to my girls. I really hope the dolls I make now bless more than one generation. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteMy wooden Cabbage Patch kitchen!! Can we say 80'sish or what?! I loved it!!
ReplyDeleteI got a huge, floppy monkey that had sand in all four paws so they were weighted down. I would hang him over my shoulder and carry him everywhere! I'm sure it's at my mom's house somewhere...
ReplyDeleteLoving your mermaes! My favorite gift that I got and my parents have actually kept for all these years is the popple. A stuffed animal that actually tucked into itself and became a big fuzzy ball :)
ReplyDeleteA big barbie doll house. But it's not the toy I treasure, it's the memory of my mom spending who-knows-how-long putting stickers on the tiny food it came with and getting it all set up!
ReplyDeleteI got a kids sewing machine that came with cartridges that contained a threaded needle and really worked. I also got a kids knitting machine that knitted tubes. I made a stuffed snake and scarfs. Baby alive was fun not like the ones they have now when you put the spoon in her mouth it chewed and she really pooped.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little MerMae!!!! My most memorable gift was the year Santa brought me & my sister a kitchen. I was 4 & she was 2; the kitchen was mustard yellow & metal! Santa stocked it with food, dishes, & pots & pans. We loved it! We used it as a kitchen, a store, & a house for our animals. If I remember right, my lamb lived in the refrigerator....
ReplyDeleteMine was a purple banana seat bike with rainbow stickers on it. It came he year i was 6, we left for church and our tree was bare when we came home a few hours later it was stuffed full of wrapped boxes and their was my bike with a big bow! man was I excited.... my parents had my uncle come over when we were gone to play the santa part and mov presents from my parents room to the living room it was such a fun year!!!
ReplyDeleteMine was a wooden doll house that my uncle made. It was so amazing! I can still picture it like yesterday!
ReplyDeleteMine was a huge chalkboard easel. Thanks again for the great giveaways!
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting!!!! I can remember lots of fun times at Christmas growing up with all my cousins. Christmas Eve dinner at my grandmother's house. Lots of good food and laughs. My aunt loved to dance so we danced alot and sang songs. We did open gifts and Santa came but I can't really remember any of them. I guess what was really most important was my family and our GREAT times together. The best gift of all!!!!!!!!!!! Merry Christmas to all.

ReplyDeleteA Cabage Patch Doll
ReplyDeleteOne year I got 2 cabbage patch dolls and 2 sets of cabbage patch twins & a carriage for them. yes, that's 6 total! It was so over the top. I was thankful for the first one, then more came and I was beside myself, I couldn't believe they just kept coming! I kept saying, another one! I was in shock! But I was all grins, I really loved that. They must have gotten a slammin deal on them! Haha. Looking back now I think they could have donated some, because I was so happy with the first set of twins.
ReplyDeleteI also loved my She-ra castle, but I can't remember if I got it for my birthday, which is also in December.
This Mermae is too cute. Love the shells.

ReplyDeleteOne year my sister and I got a puppy. I got to name her and she ended up liking me best, too. haha :)
ReplyDeleteIt is time for you to take care of yourself and get feeling better for your family and your celebrations during Christmas. Children & families are the 2nd best at this time of year when we celebrate the Birth of Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the wonderful dolls, animals and warm fuzzy characters you have introduced to the world. I am so happy to be a part of your world and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The best Christmas present I got as a child was a big bubblegum machine. The one that excepts coins...I was SUPER excited.
ReplyDeleteThe best gift overall definitely is an early one for this year. Tomorrow it will be a month ago that my 3 year old had her 2nd open heart surgery. She is doing wonderful...she is beautiful and amazing. SHE is my most precious gift this season and always!!

ReplyDeletek8popple@hotmail.com
Mine has got to be the original Nintendo. The box was HUGE. It was the most exciting gift ever. I think it had the track pad in there as well, that's why it was so big. Remember that? We used to pound on it with our fists instead of actually running on it. Hee hee! Silly kids!
ReplyDeleteOne year I got a futon. I just kept wondering how I could have missed it before Christmas morning It was huge LOL
ReplyDeleteI have a lot I have never forgotten. Toodles Doll, twin dolls with a cradle, clock radio. But the best ever, my blue '66 Mustang when I was 17. ReplyDeleteA dollhouse my daddy built.
ReplyDeleteA stuffed raccoon puppet that I had coveted for months at a local shop! It's the only time I ever snooped for gifts in my mom's closet because I just had to know if I was getting him for Christmas. My son and daughter love playing with him now over 20 years later!

I am currently using my husbands google account to post these...I would have to say hands down my best christmas gift ever was the christmas that my now husband proposed marriage to me.
ReplyDeleteBest gift ever!!
It would have to be the Cabbage Patch doll I got when I was 3. I don't actually remember getting it, but my mom loves to tell me the story. They had just come out and apparently I didn't want one until right before Christmas. They were no where to be found but my mom ended up buying one off of some lady. I still have her, too. :)
