The best Christmas present I got as a child was a big bubblegum machine. The one that excepts coins...I was SUPER excited.

The best gift overall definitely is an early one for this year. Tomorrow it will be a month ago that my 3 year old had her 2nd open heart surgery. She is doing wonderful...she is beautiful and amazing. SHE is my most precious gift this season and always!! Happy Holidays everyone!

What an amazing gift!

12 Days of Christmas- Day 9 Event

Meet Carmen! She is made from two of my favorite fabrics from one of my all time favorite fabric collections, Meadowsweet. The idea for this giveaway came when we took the kids to see Santa last week and Abby wanted to sing 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' with "the extras". lol All five of us sang it in the car and Rob and I impressed the kids with some "extras" that they didn't know!

For a chance to win this little gal... just leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite holiday song or carol is! Religious (all!), non-religious, serious, silly... whatever song makes you want to listen or sing along! You have 24 hours to comment and we'll pick the winner by a random draw!

12 Days of Christmas- Day 7 Event

Rob and I have a thing for coffee mugs. It is our souvenir of choice when we go on a trip and we always buy a pair. We have a lot of coffee mugs! Of course, the first thing that we did with the new Bit of Whimsy Dolls logo was get matching coffee mugs from Cafe Press. Since I love tote bags so much, I got one of those too! Would you like a BoWD coffee mug and tote bag for yourself? All you need to do to enter this giveaway is leave me a comment with your favorite cold weather drink! Coffee, tea, hot cocoa? None of the above?

One winner will be chosen by random draw. Giveaway runs for 24 hours.

Day 5- Kitty Pattern WINNERS!

We have our winners! This was sooo much fun! I have had a lot of pets in my life and I loved reading about everyone else's.

Abby helped me make the number papers and then I let her swish them all in a bowl, close her eyes and pick three papers!

The winners are…. comments #43 (kate), #73 (Hannah) and #111 (Haws Family)!!!

When I was a little girl I had a little black kitty named Miffy, after the Dick Bruna books. She was super sassy.

Hannah said...
My favorite pets (can't pick one!) are my two current dogs. They are Chinese Cresteds, and although they are the same breed they are each SO different. My female, LuLu, is almost entirely hairless and my male, Kingston, is covered in long puffy hair on his whole body. They are the sweetest and strangest dogs I've ever had. Also, I'm getting a kitten next week and i'm super excited, so having the Katie Kitten pattern would be great so I can make a look-a-like doll of him. :)

Haws Family said...
We have two cats, Callie and Frances. We had them "fixed" as soon as we could. My 5 girls think it's the saddest thing ever that they won't have any kittens. "you mean they'll NEVER be mothers, mom?"

Congratulations to all of the winners! Please send me an email at sarah@bitofwhimsydolls.com and let me know which prize you want!

12 Days of Christmas - Day 4 Event!

Meet Cain the "Elf"! Since Christmas 2008, my Nutmeg Gnome pattern has been made into a lot of gnomes and a ton of Christmas elves! Cain is made from sparkly ornament fabric and is decked out with red jingle bells on his toes and on the tippy top of his hat! He has a removable scarf to keep extra warm.

For a chance to win this little guy... just leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite holiday cookie or dessert is! You only have 24 hours to narrow it down to only one sweet treat! We'll pick the winner by a random draw!

Day 2 - Wittle Whimsies 5-Pattern Bundle Pack WINNER!

Before I announce the winner, I just want to say Thank You for all of you who posted! It was fantastic reading everyone's stories! I have actually read through all of them three times and Rob read everyone once that I know of. We loved reading the many wonderful religious traditions and some of the lighter spirited traditions you shared... by the way, I had no idea pajamas were such a popular gift!  The thing that we love about the tradition we chose as the 'winner' (although I think everyone will agree that we're all better for having read through this list and thought about our own traditions) is that it is relevant to everyone and truly captures one of the most important parts of this holiday season... being grateful.

During this time of year it is easy to lose perspective and to forget why this holiday season is so special. The endless shopping and commitments to work and school and the Go, Go,Go part of the holidays seem to get in the way sometimes. In the end, the one thing almost everyone mentioned as part of your tradition in some way was the feeling of gratitude.  All of the good stuff comes out of our thankfulness... spending more time with our family, spending more fun time with our kids, giving to those who need help.... it all comes from being grateful for what we have regardless of where we may fall in the social or economic food chain - everyone has something they can give, even if it's just a smile to a passing stranger.  (wouldn't it be great if we all just smiled a little more?)  I know that I've had times in my life where I couldn't afford much more than being cheerful... that's ok too!

After a lot of conversation this evening, we've selected 'holdingcatsbytails' as the Day 2 winner.  Incase you missed her tradition (one that we'll be starting this year in our family), here it is:

We make a "gratitude chain" from loops of construction paper. Each child gets some number of strips (perhaps the number of the years they've had on the planet? perhaps ten . . . depending on how grousy they have been or how bad they have had the "gimmies"), and they may write on each strip the things they are grateful for -- and we go around the table & share each person's. After making our chain, we hang it somewhere conspicuous as a reminder throughout the season.

We like the idea of taking time before the craziness part starts to write down the important things & then to have a visual reminder!   Coincidently, Abby came home from school today and spent an hour making the chain at our kitchen table, then asked Rob to hang it right above her bed.  Congratulations to 'holdingcatsbytails', please send an email to sarah@bitofwhimsydolls.com letting me know whether you'd like the Wittle Whimsy 5-pattern bundle pack or the $25 Bit of Whimsy Dolls gift certificate.

Day 1 - Holly Mae WINNER!

To select the winner, I asked the kids in order from youngest to oldest to pick numbers.  Billy got to choose a 0, 1, 2, or 3.  Abby and Robbie both got to choose a number from 0 - 9.  NOT counting the one additional comment I put in the string (afterall, I can't enter my own contest, right?) I'm VERY EXCITED to announce that Erin Stewart Hill is the winner with comment number 278!

Erin, please send an email to sarah@bitofwhimsydolls.com and include your address for Holly Mae to come home to you ASAP!!!

Thank you everyone for all the comments!  I loved reading what everyone had to say about Holly Mae.  This is soooo much fun! 1 down, 11 more days to go!

12 Days of Christmas - Day 2 Event!

Our family has a ton of holiday traditions - we love them! Some of the things we do include cutting down our Christmas tree on Black Friday instead of subjecting ourselves to the shopping madness and watching the movie 'Family Man' as Rob and I get most of the tree decorated with the kids fast asleep.

For the Day 2 event, share with me your favorite holiday tradition by adding a comment to this blog post.  DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY ON FACEBOOK. We'll review them all with the kids and have a family vote on the best one!

To the winner, will go the offer of the Wittle Whimsy 5-pattern bundle pack or $25 in Bit of Whimsy Dolls credit.  This should be fun and I'm sure we'll all get something out of this contest!
